A recent online poll commissioned by the 2010 Bridgestone Eco Rally (an event showcasing eco-friendly vehicle technology) has shown that almost a quarter of people who responded would not consider buying an eco-friendly vehicle.
Concerns by respondents varied but the main ones were worries over the hassle they perceive when filling or charging, buying and running expenses and perceived lack of power compared to ‘standard’ models.
The event, which is in its fourth year, uses a convoy of eco-friendly vehicles travelling from Brighton to London to demonstrate the latest developments in this area and has attracted support from many celebrities and motor manufacturers.

The Health Protection Agency has called for more research to be done into a possible link between Legionnaire’s Disease and motorists who don’t use additives in thier vehicle screen wash bottles. This comes after a preliminary study suggested that there is a strong association between the disease and drivers who use just water in their wash bottles. A further study is now needed to see if adding screenwash solutions to water in the wash bottle can kill the bacteria which cause the disease and so reduce the risk.
A separate investigation showed that 1 in 5 cars that were tested with no screen wash aditive in the bottle did contain the Legionella bacteria whereas no car with screen wash aditive was found to have the bacteria present.

A new TV advert will show bikers with flashing neon signs attached to their bikes. The signs show the rider’s name and describe personality traits such as ’shy retiring type’ or ‘new dad’. The voiceover at the end asks drivers to look out for motorcyclists next time they’re out driving.
Road Safety Minister Paul Clark recently launched the new £3.5 million campaign. It marks a radical departure for THINK! after research showed drivers are more likely to notice motorcyclists on the roads if they personally know a biker.
